How do you feel about having your dinner overnight after having a steak for the day? This is actually a very common request from parents, children, or friends who are on Living with a smoker. Indeed, the evening is often seen as a relaxed and fun time, especially if you have your dinner party outdoors. However, this relaxing and fun atmosphere is often ruined if you cook or prepare any type of food with your smoker. Crackers, utensils, and even paper napkins need to be replaced so that no one has to worry about their place settings.
The place settings of a smoker are very important. settings such as low, medium, or high will depend on what region of the country you are smoking in. (The higher the setting, the cooler the environment will be. If you are assuming an outdoor fire, you will want it cranked up high). Lower settings are needed if you are smoking in a confined space such as inside your house.
You may want to buy a water filter for your water, however, it is also cranked on and off with the gas, and hot. This means that the water you use does not stay fresh as long as other methods of purification. It also means that you will have to spend more money on bottled water over time. When you take money out of your budget it means you will have to buy more convenience items, which means more gas, and more time driving. Since you are already cooking most of the time anyway, you may as well get the most out of it.
You cannot go wrong with a charcoal smoker either. They cook the best food for the best price. You will have to pay attention though because many charcoal smokers have smokers that do not have a refill handle. refill means that you will have to do more cleaning up after you have smoked the meat. It is not a big deal though, as the meat will not be cooked in the foil and all the grease will fall off.
Cracking the foil is very easy with a heat source like a gas stove. Simply turn the source on for a minute or two then off. Then take the lid off the creator and pour or pour the leftover charcoal into the bottom of the coals. By this time the coals are covered in ash. You can dump the ashes into a can to use as garden fertilizer though. I do not recommend this method, as there is too much of a chance of the ashes becoming toxic.
You can keep the heat low with an electric cooler though. Typically, you will want the temperature around 250 to 300 degrees F. You can purchase a cooler that runs on electricity, or if you are using one of those with a water filter inside. This is helpful because it will keep the temperature lower. Ice will not be on the menu because ice turns quickly into water.
You may want a stick smoker. They are usually composed of a grate for the heat source and smoke. The meat is always cooked through the smoke. They are usually quite flavorful.
The ideal time to get started smoking is when you have the food prepared and the smoking environment established. Briefly, you want to move the food into the smoking environment, where you can control the temperature and the heat.
You will want to have the food prepared as soon as you can, and wash up as little as a couple of hours. Meats take up a lot of space if not properly cooked. They should be placed on the coals, not in containers, as they will dry out very fast. While you can keep cooked foods moist by putting them in a wet paper bag, it is much better to let them drip dry to be able to control the density. Drying foods will allow them to lose fewer moisture than being in their original packaging.
Smoked foods are very tasty, and the flavor will be enhanced by the smoke flavor. While you can keep cooked foods moist by using water, the moisture can evaporate with the help of a dehydrator or an oven. With a direct heat source, you will also be able to control the temperature.
